What is Ismo Tablet 20mg used for

Contains isosorbide mononitrate, prescribed for people with coronary artery disease.

Prescribed mainly to prevent angina episodes.

Not meant to treat a sudden angina attack already happening.

How does it work

Releases nitric oxide inside blood vessel walls, relaxing and widening veins and arteries.

Lowers the heart's oxygen demand and improves blood flow to the heart muscle.

Who should not use it

Not safe for patients who take sildenafil, tadalafil, or similar erectile dysfunction drugs.

People with a recent head injury, severe anemia, or very low blood pressure should avoid it.

Patients allergic to nitrates or with untreated low blood volume need an alternative.

Hot summers and dehydration during Ramadan fasting can worsen the blood pressure dip.

Patients should rise slowly and stay well hydrated.

How to use Ismo Tablet 20mg?

• Swallow whole with a glass of water, without crushing or chewing.
• Best taken at the same time every day.
• An empty stomach is preferred unless advised otherwise.
• Sudden discontinuation without medical advice is not recommended.
• A missed dose should not be doubled up.

Drug Interactions

• PDE5 inhibitors: Can cause a dangerous fall in blood pressure.
• Riociguat: Should not be combined due to similar risk.
• Alcohol: Increases the blood pressure lowering effect.
• Other blood pressure medicines: Can add up to an excessive drop.
• Aspirin: Can raise Ismo's blood levels.

Risks and warnings

• Sudden withdrawal: Should not be stopped abruptly.
• Low blood pressure risk: Hot summers and dehydration can worsen the blood pressure drop.
• Alcohol: Can intensify dizziness and low blood pressure.
