What Experts Say
Doctors often choose lisinopril as an early option for high blood pressure because it relaxes blood vessels without slowing the heart rate. It belongs to the ACE inhibitor class, which blocks a hormone that narrows blood vessels and raises pressure. This mechanism makes it useful for both hypertension and certain heart conditions.
Physicians usually start with a low dose and check blood pressure response before increasing it. Kidney function and blood potassium levels are monitored during the first few weeks of treatment. A persistent dry cough is a known effect of this drug class, and doctors switch patients to another option if it becomes bothersome.
Clinical experience across Pakistan shows that consistent daily use lowers the risk of stroke, heart attack and kidney decline over time. Doctors across Pakistan stress that missed doses reduce protection, since blood pressure control depends on steady drug levels. Regular follow up visits help confirm the medicine is working as intended.
