How to use Lopemid capsule 2mg?
- Adults take 2 capsules (4mg) at the first loose stool, then 1 capsule after each following loose stool.
- Do not take more than 8 capsules (16mg) in 24 hours without a doctor's advice.
- Pair every dose with oral rehydration salts, especially in Pakistan's hot summer months.
- Stop the medicine and see a doctor if diarrhea continues beyond 48 hours.
Drug Interactions
- Quinidine: Raises loperamide blood levels and increases the chance of heart rhythm problems.
- Ritonavir: Can increase loperamide absorption and its side effect risk.
- Other opioid medicines: Combined use raises the risk of severe constipation and sedation.
- Antibiotics for C. difficile infection: Loperamide should be avoided during this treatment.
Risks and warnings
- Bloody diarrhea or high fever: Avoid this medicine, since it can mask a serious bacterial infection.
- Children: Not recommended for young children without direct medical advice.
- Pregnancy: Use only if a doctor confirms it is needed.
