What is Norplat tablet 75mg used for

Prescribed to prevent heart attack and stroke in at-risk patients.

Also given after angioplasty or stent placement, and in peripheral arterial disease.

How does it work

Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet drug.

It stops platelets from sticking together, lowering clot risk.

Who should not use it

People with active bleeding, such as a bleeding ulcer or recent brain hemorrhage, should not take this medicine.

Severe liver disease or known allergy should also avoid it.

Heart stent care

Cardiologists commonly prescribe Norplat alongside aspirin after a coronary stent.

This dual therapy usually continues for months to a year.

How to use Norplat tablet 75mg?

• Take one tablet once daily, with or without food.
• Take at the same time every day.
• Do not stop without a doctor's advice, even before minor procedures.
• Inform every doctor or dentist before any surgery or extraction.
• If a dose is missed, take as soon as remembered unless next dose is due soon.

Drug Interactions

• Omeprazole and esomeprazole: Can reduce the antiplatelet effect.
• Aspirin and other NSAIDs: Raises bleeding risk.
• Warfarin and other blood thinners: Significantly increases bleeding risk.
• Other antiplatelet drugs: Can cause excessive bleeding.

Risks and warnings

• Bleeding risk: Bruising, nosebleeds, or prolonged bleeding from cuts can occur.
• Surgery and dental work: Never stop on your own before dental extraction or surgery.
• Stent patients: Missing doses can lead to sudden clot formation in the stent.
• PPI interaction: Omeprazole can reduce effectiveness.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Use only if benefit outweighs risk.
