Pre Pregnancy Issues

Asked for Female, 39 years

If I am going to have c section for delivery is it better to receive general anesthesia and what are complications associated with it? Or spinal injection should be preferred over it? Because I have heard of side effects of spinal injections afterwards.

Dear Patient,

The decision is sole of the patient and their doctor
With spinal/epidural u can experience headache and sudden drop in bp (which can be managed) and long-term risk is of backache for life for unknown reasons. But with these, you can see your baby immediately
With general anesthesia you miss the baby's delivery and wake up later, you can experience nausea and vomiting on waking up.
Rest of the complications are the same as of any surgery.
