RBC’s aplasia

My daughter has been diagnosed with RBC’s aplasia. Doctors are talking about bone marrow transplant from her sibling. As I don't want my son to be a donor because I am scared that something might happen to him as well. Can the child’s parents or any other person be a donor? Secondly, is there any other way to cure the disease other than transplant?

Dear Patient,

I wish her complete recovery. Your doctor may better answer your question but to my knowledge, the reason why parents can't donate bone marrow is that your child has 50% DNA from both parents, if only one parent's genes are given there may be a rejection of them since the body is already attacking its own cells. There are medications to stop the immune system of child TEMPORARILY so bone marrow CAN make cells again but there's a risk of relapse once medicines stop.
