Dr Mahnaz Naveed Shah, MD, is Director, Consultant Ophthalmologist and Glaucoma specialist at The Eye Centre, Dr. Mahnaz Naveed Shah & Associates at the South City Hospital, Karachi. Dr Mahnaz completed both her basic medical as well as her advanced postgraduate training in the United States. She graduated from medical college in the United States, earning a medical doctorate degree from Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas and continued on to complete her training in ophthalmology at the world famous Cullen Eye Institute at Baylor College of Medicine. She has trained in both adult and pediatric ophthalmology at The Methodist Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital, the Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Centre, Ben Taub Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital. At the completion of her training she was honoured with the Stephen Schindler Award by the Cullen Eye Institute, a recognition awarded annually to one outstanding graduating resident. After completing her extensive ophthalmology training, Dr Mahnaz completed an additional fellowship in Glaucoma and Anterior Segment Surgery in the United States. She was board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology subsequent to completion of her training and recertified again through a rigorous process in 2012 to ensure compliance with the highest standards in the provision of eye care. Dr Mahnaz Naveed Shah is also an elected fellow of the prestigious American Academy of Ophthalmology. She maintains an unrestricted active medical license and board certification to practice ophthalmology in the United States. After completion of training and working as a qualified ophthalmologist in the United States, Dr Mahnaz returned to Pakistan in 2002, when she joined the Aga Khan University Hospital as part of the medical student faculty and as Consultant Eye Surgeon.
