What Experts Say
Doctors combine perindopril and amlodipine in one tablet because each drug lowers blood pressure through a different pathway. Perindopril relaxes blood vessels by blocking the enzyme that produces angiotensin II, while amlodipine relaxes vessel walls by blocking calcium entry into muscle cells. Together they produce a stronger, steadier effect than either drug alone at a comparable dose.
Pakistan has one of the highest rates of hypertension in South Asia, and many patients need more than one medicine to reach their target blood pressure. Physicians often move to a fixed dose combination like Amper Tablet 4mg / 5mg once a single ACE inhibitor or calcium channel blocker alone fails to control pressure, since one tablet also improves how consistently patients take their medicine.
Clinicians monitor kidney function, potassium levels and blood pressure response after starting or adjusting the dose, particularly in older adults or anyone with existing kidney disease. Swelling in the ankles and a persistent dry cough are the most commonly discussed side effects, and either one is usually a reason to review the treatment plan with a doctor.
