About Ivaset Tablet 5mg
Ivaset Tablet contains Ivabradine, a heart rate lowering drug used to treat chronic heart failure.
Ivaset Tablet 5mg Uses
- Chronic heart failure with reduced ejection fraction
- Stable angina pectoris (chest pain from reduced blood flow to the heart)
- Used when beta blockers are not tolerated or are contraindicated
- Helps lower resting heart rate in patients with normal sinus rhythm
Ivaset Tablet 5mg Benefits
- Reduces hospital admissions related to worsening heart failure
- Slows heart rate without significantly lowering blood pressure
- Can be combined with standard heart failure medications
- Improves exercise tolerance in stable angina patients
- Does not affect the heart's pumping strength (contractility)
What Experts Say
Doctors recommend ivabradine when the resting heart rate stays above 70 beats per minute despite optimal heart failure therapy. Physicians across Pakistan use it as an add on to standard treatment rather than a replacement for beta blockers, ACE inhibitors, or mineralocorticoid antagonists.
Physicians monitor heart rate closely during dose titration since bradycardia below 50 beats per minute requires dose reduction or discontinuation. Patients with visual disturbances, known as phosphenes, are advised these effects are usually mild and reversible after stopping the medicine.
Ivabradine selectively blocks the If current in the heart's sinoatrial node, slowing the rate of spontaneous depolarization without affecting conduction or contractility elsewhere in the heart. This selective action distinguishes it from beta blockers, which lower heart rate through broader receptor blockade.
Drug Class

- Rifampicin: A strong CYP3A4 inducer that may reduce ivabradine's effectiveness.
- QT Prolonging Drugs: Combined use with certain antiarrhythmic drugs may increase the risk of heart rhythm disturbances.
Risks and warnings
- Bradycardia: Can cause excessively slow heart rate, especially when combined with other rate-lowering medicines.
- Liver Impairment: Not recommended in patients with severe liver disease due to limited safety data.
