• Bacterial throat and tonsil infections

What Experts Say

Cefixime weakens the bacterial cell wall so the bacteria causing an infection cannot survive or multiply.

As a third generation cephalosporin, it covers a broad range of bacteria commonly seen in throat, ear, urinary, and typhoid infections in Pakistan.

The suspension should be shaken well and measured with the marked spoon, and the full course should be completed even if symptoms improve early.

How to use Linzim DS?

• Shake the bottle well before each dose.
• Measure the dose with the spoon or syringe provided, not a household spoon.
• Take twice daily, with or without food, at evenly spaced times.
• Complete the full course even if symptoms improve.

Drug Interactions

Cefixime has a few notable drug interactions.

• Carbamazepine: Cefixime can raise carbamazepine levels in the blood.
• Warfarin and other blood thinners: May increase bleeding risk when combined.
• Probenecid: Increases cefixime blood levels by slowing its clearance.

Risks and warnings

• Allergy: Avoid in known allergy to cephalosporin or penicillin antibiotics.
• Kidney function: Dose adjustment may be needed in significant kidney impairment.
• Diarrhea: Can cause loose stools; severe or persistent diarrhea needs medical review.
• Not for viral infections: Ineffective against colds, flu, or other viral illness.

Storage Conditions

Store below 25°C, away from moisture and direct sunlight, and discard the reconstituted suspension after 14 days.
