Nepafenac is a prodrug NSAID that is converted into its active form, amfenac, once it crosses the cornea into ocular tissue. Amfenac blocks the cyclooxygenase enzymes responsible for producing prostaglandins, the chemical messengers that drive pain, redness and swelling inside the eye.

Cataract surgery triggers a natural inflammatory response as the eye heals. By suppressing prostaglandin production, nepafenac drops reduce this inflammation and lower the risk of cystoid macular edema, a swelling of the retina that can blur vision after surgery.

Because nepafenac targets inflammation directly rather than suppressing the immune system broadly, it carries a lower risk of raising eye pressure than steroid eye drops. How to use Nevanac Drops 0.1%?

• Instill one drop into the affected eye as directed by your eye doctor
• Shake the bottle gently before each use
• Wash hands before instilling the drop to avoid contamination
• Avoid touching the dropper tip to the eye or any surface
• Wait at least 5 minutes before using any other eye drop

Drug Interactions

• Other Topical NSAID Eye Drops: Combining increases the risk of corneal side effects, so avoid using together.
• Topical Corticosteroid Eye Drops: Concurrent use may slow corneal healing further.
• Oral Anticoagulants (Warfarin): NSAIDs may add a small bleeding risk during eye procedures.
