What Experts Say
Polygynax capsules combine neomycin sulphate, polymyxin B sulphate and nystatin in a single vaginal dose. This triple combination targets a broader range of bacteria and yeast than a single ingredient product. Doctors often prescribe it when vaginal discharge, itching or odor suggest a mixed infection rather than one caused by a single organism.
Neomycin and polymyxin B are antibiotics that disrupt bacterial cell walls, while nystatin is an antifungal that stops Candida yeast from multiplying. Gynecology literature supports this combination for short term local treatment of mixed vaginal infections, with most women completing a six to twelve day course.
Since Polygynax is inserted vaginally rather than swallowed, absorption into the bloodstream stays minimal, which lowers the risk of systemic side effects compared with oral antibiotics. Even so, a doctor should confirm the diagnosis first, since using it for the wrong type of infection will not clear the underlying problem.

Drug Interactions
- Other vaginal products: Using spermicides, douches or other vaginal medicines at the same time can reduce Polygynax's effectiveness.
- Latex condoms and diaphragms: The oily capsule base may weaken latex, so barrier contraception may fail during treatment.
- Aminoglycoside antibiotics: Combining with other neomycin related antibiotics may raise the risk of irritation, though systemic interaction stays unlikely due to minimal absorption.
Risks and warnings
- Pregnancy: Use only under medical supervision, especially in the first trimester, since safety data is limited.
- Hearing risk: Neomycin belongs to a drug class linked to hearing damage with prolonged or high dose use, though vaginal absorption stays low.
- Allergy history: Avoid if you have a known allergy to neomycin, polymyxin B, nystatin or related antibiotics.
- Not for oral use: This capsule is for vaginal insertion only and must never be swallowed.
- Menstruation: Doctors often advise avoiding use during a menstrual period unless specifically instructed otherwise.
