What Experts Say
Nepafenac is a nonsteroidal anti inflammatory prodrug that is converted inside the eye to its active form, which blocks the enzyme responsible for producing inflammatory chemicals called prostaglandins. This helps reduce the swelling, redness, and discomfort that can follow eye surgery.
Ophthalmologists in Pakistan typically prescribe this eye drop starting the day before or the day of cataract surgery, continuing for several weeks afterward as part of the standard recovery protocol. Diabetic patients are watched closely since they carry a higher risk of swelling at the back of the eye after surgery.
Because this is a prescription eye drop tied closely to a surgical recovery plan, it is used strictly according to the operating surgeon's instructions rather than on a self directed basis. Any unusual eye pain, vision change, or discharge during the course of treatment is reported to the eye surgeon promptly.
