Water in Lungs

Asked for Female, 43 years

My sister is undergoing peritoneal dialysis treatment for the past one month. Now, she has developed water in the lungs. Due to that, there is breathlessness, no appetite, no sleep, water retention in feet, and stomach. The doctor has removed 1 liter of water from the lungs, but second day it is accumulating. What will be the treatment?

Dear Patient,

Unfortunately, the normal procedure of releasing excess fluids through medications cannot be undertaken in your sister's case due to the condition of her kidneys. The fluid will need to be drained externally. a BiPAP/ventilator may be recommended to ease her breathing and reduce the burden on the lungs. I believe you are already aware of the seriousness of her kidney condition, and the edema in lungs is an expected side-effect in this case. this is a highly critical situation. I wish her a speedy recovery with complete health.
