Bio

Dr. Khalid Jamil Akhtar is an incredibly accomplished neurologist, often regarded as the best neurologist in Lahore. He has won numerous awards over the years for his exceptional service and performance. He has been credited with being a pioneer of physical medicine and rehabilitation (PMR) in Pakistan and has treated thousands of patients using these techniques. He actually experienced these treatments firsthand while recovering from a horrific car accident that left him unable to walk. After traveling to the UK for treatment and undergoing PMR treatment, he was able to walk again even though his doctors said such a recovery would be impossible. Dr. Khalid Jamil Akhtar has brought this same treatment to Pakistan and has opened a state of the art rehabilitation center at Mayo Hospital.

Qualifications

Dr. Khalid Jamil Akhtar got his MBBS from King Edward Medical College in the UK after he had recovered from the accident. He then returned to the UK to get his DCN in neurology from London University. Dr Akhtar also has an FCPS in rehabilitative medicine from Pakistan and got all of these qualifications while maintaining a record of excellence. He was awarded numerous scholarships and awards while still in university, including a scholarship at King Edward Medical College.

Experience

Dr. Khalid Jamil Akhtar has over 35 years of experience in his field and has worked for a number of organizations and projects. He is currently the head of the PMR Department at Mayo Hospital and is also the acting dean of PMR at the College of Physicians and Surgeons. He has mentored thousands of young neurologists and rehabilitation specialists over the years and has led numerous projects to help special needs children in Pakistan.

Activism

Dr. Khalid Jamil Akhtar has been incredibly active when it comes to helping underprivileged communities in Pakistan. He is currently running several programs that provide medical treatment to mentally and physically disabled people all over the country and has also built an enclosure in Gaddafi Stadium that is reserved for children with special needs. Dr. Jamil Akhtar has been awarded the title of Professor emeritus and a Sitara-e- Imtiaz by the government for his tireless efforts. He has chaired the Pakistan Paralympics team and was also the official doctor for the country’s cricket and hockey teams. Dr. Khalid Jamil has also made numerous appearances on television to spread awareness about medical issues and initiatives.
